Dear Mothers and Families:

It is a great pleasure to serve as the 2007-2009 Regional Director for the Mid-Western Region.  We are 1300 families strong with a focus on our children and the children in our communities.  The Mid-Western Region is one of seven Regions that supports the National theme “Empowering Our Youth to Excel Through Leadership and Service in Our Communities”.  Our goal is to build great leaders to meet the challenges of the world through exposure to educational, cultural, civic, recreational, and social activities.  We are working together to provide a foundation for our children through leadership development and community service.

The theme for the Mid-Western Region this program year is “Courage, Character and Perseverance on the Journey to Excellence”.  We started the program year by successfully conducting two outstanding Workday Clusters bringing our chapters together in the Region.  Members attended workshops on chapter operations, financial requirements, children’s programming and grant writing.  The teens enthusiastically participated in workshops on leadership, health and voting.  The Greater Lansing and the Indianapolis Chapters are to be commended for hosting the clusters in grand style.  During March and April, the children/preteen clusters will be hosted by the Dayton, West Suburban Chicago, Youngstown and Ypsilanti Chapters.  The Cincinnati Chapter has been working diligently planning for the Regional Teen Conference from June 26-29.  We hope for a record number of attendees for our 54th Annual Teen Conference at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Regional Team is ready to RISE to the challenge of meeting the needs of the Mid-Western Region.  I am passionate about our focus being on our children.  We will emphasize children’s programming and teen leadership.  At the same time, we will continue on the path of providing information and training to the Chapters that is necessary to operate effectively.  Together the Mid-Western Region will RISE

The Region continues its focus on:

Re-emphasis on children’s programming
Influencing children’s issues in our communities
Service initiatives integrated into the community
Essential growth of the Region

We have much to put in place in a very short time.  We are up to the challenge and are excited to serving our Region.

In the spirit of our children,

Sandra Townsend
